What Electricians Do

Electricians are responsible for installing and maintaining the electrical systems that power residential, commercial, and industrial spaces. Their work ensures that buildings operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.

Electricians commonly perform work such as:

  • Installing wiring, lighting, and electrical systems

  • Reading and interpreting electrical blueprints

  • Troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues

Core Curriculum

80 hours minimum of foundational instruction covering basic construction, communication, and employability skills

CET Introduction

Construction Expedited Technology (CET) provides 8–12 weeks of hands-on exposure across a minimum of five construction trades.

On-the-Job Training

Work alongside experienced professionals while applying classroom knowledge on real job sites.

Wage Progression

Electrician apprentices earn progressive wages as training and experience increase. On public works projects in Cook County, wages follow the Illinois Department of Labor prevailing wage schedule.
